Otley is a friendly down-to-earth market town that bridges cosmopolitan Leeds and the picturesque Yorkshire Dales.
Wesley Hall
Boroughgate, LS21 1AG
The building is a church hall located just the next door of Otley Methodist Church.
Our town was a favourite destination of John Wesley as he journeyed across the UK. He writes about preaching in the marketplace on to a crowd that responded enthusiastically and, on another occasion he describes a drunken riot taking place!
All Saints Parish Church
Kirkgate, Otley LS21 3HW
The first church building on the site was Anglo Saxon but only the foundations still remain. A Norman church was built over those foundations during the 11th century, and this forms the present day chancel. It was enlarged in about 1240 by the addition of a wide nave, a north and south transept and a plain unbuttressed tower. Further additions and modifications took place during later centuries, including the magnificent stained-glass East Window in 1851.
